Larian Studios Unveil a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Yet

The speculation about this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is creating a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer featuring intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio warned that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction implies that the team might be building a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it kicked off the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—elements that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths only possible with a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously open-ended, allowing players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be solved in a variety of manners, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can get ready for a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
